Maintenance Schedules

Range Maintenance Schedule

A complete maintenance schedule for ranges — daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks.

Routine maintenance on a range is the difference between an appliance that lasts the warranty period and one that lasts 15-20 years. The bulk of premature appliance failures trace back to maintenance items that were never performed: filters never changed, drains never cleared, gaskets never wiped down. The schedule below is the consolidated best practice across major manufacturers' published guidelines, organized by frequency so you can build it into your household routine.

Daily and per-use tasks. Wipe the cooktop after each use, while it is still slightly warm but no longer hot to touch. Spills that bake on are dramatically harder to remove than spills cleaned promptly. On glass cooktops, use only the manufacturer-recommended cleaner.

Weekly tasks. Lift the burner caps (gas) or remove the grates and wipe the cooktop surface underneath. Check the inside of the oven door window for streaks or grease and clean with a non-abrasive glass cleaner. Wipe the control panel and knobs with a slightly damp cloth.

Monthly tasks. Run a steam-clean cycle on the oven (if your model supports it) to loosen light spills. Pull the storage drawer out and vacuum behind it — crumbs and debris accumulate where they are hard to see. Wipe the inside of the oven door gasket with a damp cloth.

Quarterly tasks. Inspect the burner caps (gas) for clogged ports and brush clear if needed. Test the oven temperature with an oven thermometer to verify calibration; adjust the offset in the user menu if the actual temperature differs by more than 25°F. Tighten the anti-tip bracket bolts.

Annual tasks. Run a self-clean cycle (no more than twice a year — the high temperatures stress the door latch and electronics). Have a service technician inspect a gas range's burner valves and gas connections; brush soapy water on each connection to test for leaks. Inspect the oven seal for compression set.

Following this schedule consistently extends the useful life of your range significantly and minimizes the unexpected service calls that often arrive at the worst times. Bookmark this page or print it and tape it inside the laundry, kitchen, or utility cabinet so the schedule is visible when you would otherwise forget.
