Bottom-Mount Refrigerator

A refrigerator design with a fresh-food compartment on top and a freezer drawer on the bottom.

Definition

A bottom-mount refrigerator (sometimes called a bottom-freezer refrigerator) places the freezer below the fresh-food compartment, in a drawer or door. The design puts the more frequently accessed fresh-food at eye level, similar to French-door units, but with a single full-width fresh-food door rather than two narrower ones. Bottom-mount refrigerators are typically narrower than French-door units (often 30 inches wide vs 36) and less expensive, making them a popular choice for smaller kitchens that want the bottom-freezer convenience without the French-door footprint.
