Anti-Tip Bracket

A small bracket bolted to the floor or wall behind a freestanding range to prevent the range from tipping forward.

Definition

An anti-tip bracket is a small L-shaped bracket bolted to the floor or wall behind a freestanding range, with one of the rear leveling feet of the range slid under it. The bracket prevents the range from tipping forward when weight is placed on the open oven door (typically by a child). All freestanding ranges sold in the US ship with an anti-tip bracket; failing to install it is a serious safety violation. Universal aftermarket brackets are available for $15-$25 if the original is missing.
